Skinning Chapter Five
: Icons & Promotion

1. Icon Preamble

It is possible to also make custom icons so that if, for example, you're playing as a Tie Pilot from a reskinned Stormtrooper in-game, the icon you see on-screen reflects the reskin rather than the original character.

I will write up the section on how to do this in the coming week, so stay tuned.

2. Promotion

When you submit your Mod to lucasfiles.com (that's the ONLY site that you may submit Mods to - it's one of the conditions of being able to mod the game) the best way to encourage the public to download your mod is to make the accompanying screenshot as visually appealing as possible. It's good to make a montage of your model from various angles and in several poses and carrying different weapons into your screenshots. If there is a cutscene using your character, you can get some great results (see the Boba Fett and Old Ben montages below).

Remember it's the quality of these screenies on the download page that will be the difference between someone DLing or passing over your Mod in 95% of the cases. As I said earlier, the best way to take screenshots is via a screencapture application that runs in the background as you're playing the game and is activated via a hotkey press. Paint Shop Pro has one built in.

I can't stress enough: the screenies are the best advertisement for your work there is, so take the time to make your skin look as interesting and appealing as possible in the screenshots!
